Hello ELL Families -

I hope this email finds you well and Happy Holidays to each and every one of you.

I am sure you have all been very curious as to what our plans are for the upcoming 2021 Spring Season. I first want to say that our entire Board is 100% committed to running a Spring season for all age groups and divisions. How that looks is still yet to be determined but there will be activities at a level that we will be permitted to do so.

So what does that mean?
Well, let's start with the facts. Currently, we are allowed by the state, county and city to host camps (i.e. practices) that would allow for segregated groups of 12 players with no competition for games allowed. Basically the same set up we did for the older kids this past Summer in anticipation of potential games to be allowed.

On December 14th, the California Department of Health issued guidelines for Outdoor Youth Sports. The key takeaways from the report are as follows:
  • Physical conditioning, practice, skill-building, and training is permitted for youth baseball.
  • Competition will not be allowed in California until January 25, 2021, at the earliest. The return-to-competition date will be reassessed by January 4, 2021 based on the level of COVID-19 transmission in California.
  • Baseball is considered a moderate-contact sport. If San Diego climbs to the RED tier (1-Purple; 2-Red; 3-Orange; 4-Yellow), we will most likely get the greenlight to play games at ELL again.
Therefore, here is what we have decided to do at this time:
1) Postpone assessments for Minor B, Minor A, Majors and Juniors. There is no definite date as to when we can play games so we have not set a new date for assessments until we get clarity from the state, county and city.
2) For all ages and divisions (ages 4-14 years old), we will have some sort of activities planned such as camps and practices. That date is yet to be determined but if we were to speculate it will most likely be around the March timeframe. There is a possibility that it could be sooner depending on how the state, county and city orders play out. On the other hand, it could be later if San Diego is unable to climb into the higher tier.

IMPORTANT:
Please register your players for the Spring Season at www.ellbaseball.org. We need to get a headcount as to how many players we will be accommodating for activities and hopefully we find ourselves playing games again this year.

Meanwhile, please enjoy your Holiday Season with your families. We will send updates as things progress.

Tis the Season!!!
